Windows 7 and Language Packs
So as I make updates to my system on this Macbook Pro, I recently purchased a SSD with roughly 240GB of space on it. Finally added it to my system partitioned it so I can run both OS X El Capitan (or however you spell it) and Windows 7 Ultimate. The reasoning for this is basically to run OS X as a primary developing system for the numerous Web Stacks I'm using and learning such as RoR (Ruby on Rails) and iPhone development. The Windows 7 partition is for you know gaming and if I ever decide to develop for the Windows Mobile platforms which is highly unlikely but like James Bond, Never Say Never.
As I install numerous updates to my Windows 7 system I thought it would be a cool idea to add all those langauges to the system. This was the worst thing I could have ever done to my system and here's why. First off I only have 111 GB partitioned off for Windows 7 and with that I didn't realize that Windows 7 itself would take up SO much space. Not only is it a 30 GB initial install, all the updates take up the majority of the space! It's pretty fucking ridiculous to put it bluntly. I literally ran out of space on my partition which in turn lead to more frustration when trying to uninstall the language packs to free up some space.
Little did I know how fucked of an OS this is to run. First off, how the fuck do you have a infinite loop that occurs when trying to uninstall a Language pack. This infinite loop occurs in the Search Index which I had to manually disable so the uninstall of these damn language packs would finally go through. Even now I have issues which is really annoying when I want to move on and set up my OS X.
The biggest issue with the uninstall of these Language packs is that once a language was uninstalled I would reboot and all of a sudden I ran out of space instead of gaining the space back. I was literally losing my mind and so I decided to install CCleaner to see what exactly was happening behind the scenes here and to my surprise. There was roughly 39 GB, that's right Thirty-fucking-Nine GIGABYTES of Windows Log Files, Temporary Files, and Memory Dumps. To make matters worst I ran the Disk Cleanup Utility that comes with Windows 7 and none of this showed up which makes me even more mad as to why Microsoft Operating Systems need a third-party software to figure this kind of stuff out.
Literally I have no words that could have described my frustration but now it seems that the language packs are finally uninstalling and I can move on with my life knowing that I can get rid of these language packs once and for all. I'll wait until I actually have a need for another language on my system rather than just having it to have it. I will most likely be posting a how-to post on how-to remove these languages and clean up the disk space. Because online there was only an explanation and use stock Uninstall Utility which doesn't fully explain the issue with this process.
