There are many reasons as to why I don't get excited for the new releases of Capcom's Street Fighter. The main primary reason is the character roster and the inevitable re-release under a different guise in similar fashion to what they did with Street Fighter 4. Just to give you a brief overview of what I'm talking about here is the character roster as of now (without the DLC characters):
Birdie |
Cammy White |
Charlie Nash |
Chun-Li |
Dhalsim |
F.A.N.G |
Karin Kanzuki |
Ken Masters |
Necalli |
R. Mika |
Rashid |
Ryu |
M. Bison |
Vega |
Zangief |
With the DLC Characters (in bold):
Birdie |
Cammy White |
Charlie Nash |
Chun-Li |
Dhalsim |
F.A.N.G |
Karin Kanzuki |
Ken Masters |
Necalli |
R. Mika |
Rashid |
Ryu |
M. Bison |
Vega |
Zangief |
Alex |
Balrog |
Guile |
Ibuki |
Juri |
Urien |
These are the official characters behind this years Street Fighter 5. Already there are DLC characters at launch which always drives me nuts hearing that major studios keep on doing this to their fan-base. At least it isn't as bad EA's Star Wars Battlefront or is it? Considering the life cycle of Street Fighter 4 which had two more iterations, Super Street Fighter 4 and Ultra Street Fighter 4 one may wonder how many more iterations will follow the newest Street Fighter in the franchise. The release DLC seems to be a common trend amongst developers these days to account for the rise in development costs (which I hope is the case) but simply is crazy. The fans usually get outraged over things like this but are yet powerless to do anything about it because to be honest they are still going to purchase that game when it comes out. Which is why I shall wait until the final iteration of Street Fighter 5 to come out until I actual purchase the game. Is this a form of protest on my behalf, no not really. I just know when I'm getting shafted and when to purchase a complete game.
